The first day's races of the Feilding Jockey Clnb were held to-day, the weather being all that could be desired. The attendance was very good. The racing track was in splendid order and the appointments were all that could be desired, all of the officials performing their duties to ! the satisfaction of everyone. TheFeildi»£ Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr E. F. Haybittle, played several selections during the day, which enlivened the proceedings. The results up to the time of our going to press are as follows : — Flying Handicap, of 40 soys; second horse 5 soys from the stakes, Six i furlong's. 51 Mr A. T. Lovejoy's Musketeer, Gst 121 b (Watt) .'. 1 106 Mr D. Knight's Prioress, Bst Gib (Lett) 2 19 .Mr E. Jackman's King John, 6st 91b (Jenkins) 8 The other starters were— s2, Poinsettia, 7st 111 b; 38, King Harry, 6st 101 b; 55, Avis, 7st. A straggling start was effected, Poinsettia being left at the post. Avis at once assumed the lead, closely followed by Prioress and King John. At the back of the course the position was maintained, and they all raced round the turn to the straight, with Prioress striving for su pretnacy. Avis led into tho straight, but was quickly supplanted by Prioress. Musketeer came with a grand rush, and won by a head, with King John close up third, the others in a bunch behind. Time, lmin 18sec; dividend, £0 11s. Spring Hurdle Handicap, of SOsovs ; second horse ssovs from stakes ; one mile and threo quarters. 99 Mr Douglas 1 Couranto, 12st 111 b (Hope) 1 51 Mr C. Hawkins Unity, lOst 61b (McTaggart) 2 83 Mr T. Watt's Oaklands,9st(Kingnn) 8 The others starters were :— l9, Eaven, 9st 71b ; 87, Eclipse, 9st ; 13, Calooln, 9jt; also started. A good start was effected. Unity jumped away with a slight lead and increased it to about two lengths as they nen red the first jump, Unity still kept a lead past the grand stand and at the end of the first mile Eclipso took the lead. Oaklands put in a claim at the back of the course, but as they came round the bend into the straight Couranto made a bid for first place and with Unity and Oaklands raced into the straight and kept this order past the judge's stand, the former winning easy by a long head. Eaven and Caloolti were hopelessly beaten. Time, 3miu 31 4-ssecs, Dividend, £2 os. First Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 25 soys. One mile and a half. 101 Mr T. Scott's Waituna, list (T. Scott) 1 37 Mr F. C. Collins Morag, 9st (Sweeney) 2 49 Mr C. Chubbin's Lonely, lOst 21b (Holmes 3 The other starters were— Nanakia, Omahii, and Seddon. A good start was effected. Seddon was in front the first time past the stand, When about threequarters of a mile had been covered, Morag and Omahu took the lead. On entering the straight Waitnna was let out, winning comfortably by half a length. Time, 2min 59sec. Dividend. £2 17s.
