The creditors of the Marquis of Ailesbury have discovered that Sam Lewis, a well-known money-lender, advanced the Marquis the sum of £100,000 at the rate of 100 per cent interest. The creditors' committee of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company are not yet prepared with the scheme for reconstruction, and the statutory meeting has again been postponed. Sir J. West Ridgway has been appointed Governor of the Isle of Man, vice Mr Spencer Walpole, who was appointed successor to the late Sir A. Blackwood as Secretary of the Postal Department. The St Petersburg correspondent of the Daily Nd\vs states that the Russian Government intend to issue a loan in Paris in February, and that, should there be the probability of failure, the Czarewitch will visit Paris to ensure it success.
A deputation representing 85.000 skilled workmen waited on Lord Salisbury to protest against some of the clauses in the Employers' Liability Bill respecting contracts. Lord Salisbury replied that the House of Lords would protect the men. The English press unanimously demands and increase in the Mediterranean Squadron. Lord Roberts considers that in consequence of the recent action of the Russians, the fleet must be reinforced, in order to regain supremacy in the Mediterranean. | - In the House of Commons, Mr Gladstone stated that more shipbuilding would begin shortly, as it was the intention of the Admiralty to maintain the relative naval strongth of Great Britain. Paris, November 26. A stormy discussion took place m Ihe Chamber of Deputies on a want of confi dence motion brought forward by a Socialist member, the outcome being the resignation of the Ministry. President Carnot accepted the resignation, and summoned M. Perier, who, however, declined to undertake the formation of a new Cabinet. New York, November 25. The New York Herald asserts that the new tariff will exempt wool, hemp, copper and Block tin. Madrid, November 25, The military arrangements are said to be in a deplorable condition. It is reported that there are no arms or clothing for the reinforcements sent to Morocco. Berlin, November 25. The German camps on the Belgian trontier are to be supplied with the newest pattern of artillery. San Francisco, November 25. The Miowera is being repaired preparatory to resuming the voyage. Her engines are sound. Some, November 25. The Italian Ministry has resigned. Stormy scenes took place in the Chamber of Deputies, and the Ministry were greeted with derisive howls and cries of " Bobbers 1" The Italian finances are said to be in a desperate condition.
