Manawatu County Council

0 The annual general meeting of the above Council was held in the Council offices, Sanson, yesterday -for the election of a chairman, when the following gentlemen were present — Crs. Rausom, Taylor, Hammond, Robinson, and Masters. The clerk, Mr E. G. Cox, occupied the chair. Cr. Hammond, in proposing the reelection of Mr V. C. Ransom, referred in eulogistic terms to the manner in wbich tbat gentleman had carried out his duties. Mr T. Masters seconded the proposition, speaking in glowing terms of Mr Ransom's ability as chairman. The election of representative to the Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was then proceeded witb, which resulted in Messrs Ransom and Saxon the previous representatives, being returned. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :— From Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, informing the Council of the annual election of members to the Board, and that the Council were entitled to elect two members. From Walter Rutherford, clerk of the Manawatu Road Board, acknowledging receipt of letter of 30th inst. re amount due by the Board to the Council for share of the cost of erecting a bridge, was duly received. From T. H. Tarrant, Chairman of the Awahuri School Committee, with reference to the blind street next to the school section. FrpmE. Giesen, re overflow of drain in front of his property, and subjoining a I plan— Laid on the table, A petition signed by Messrs George Wheeler, Alex. McDonell, T. F. Richardson, W. Ellery, J. Ellery, T. F. Richardson, junr., was handed in by Cr Masters, asking the Board to connect McDonell's road, in the Sandon Riding, with the Main road to Palmerston, and stating t that if the Council acquire land to form a road, they agree to form their respective properties into a special rating district , for the purpose of borrowing £200 to pay for said land, and fencing one side of the , same. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by ( Cr Robinson, " That the petition from the ratepayers on McDonell's road, in the Sandon Riding, to be constituted a special rating district, to be called McDonell's ■ special district, be acceded to, and that < the clerk take the necessary steps to raise < a loan under the Loans to Loc.il Bodies ' Act of £'200, to pay cost of land for the purpose of a road from Mr J. Bull's, already surveyed, and fencing one side of 1 same, the interest and sinking fund on t same to be collected from the said dis- t trict."— Carried 1 Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by s Cr Robinson, " That this Council take the necessary steps to raise a loan under 1 the Government Loans to Local Bodies c Act, of £775, for special work in the San- a dpn Riding, to he allotted as follows .< — ( Bauson township, forming and metalling, i

£100 ; Cemetery road, metalling, £100 ; Wilson's Mt. Lee's lino, metalling, £225 ; Taylor's line, forming and metalling, L 75; McDunell's road, forming and metalling, L 275 ; total, L775."- Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, " That Mr Lethbridge be served with a notice to grub fnrze now growing on the Feilding-flalcombe road." — Carried. The Council then adjourned.
