MR SNELSON OFFERED £200 TO RETIRE. (PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION). Palmebston, This Day. At Mr Snelson's meeting at Stoney Creek last night the candidate said he had been offered first one hundred pounds and afterwards two hundred pounds to stand out of the election. He did not name anyone, but said be would say " somebody " offered it to him. He believed that the Government were interested in that "somebody." He affirmed these statements were true, and made them on his honor as a man. During his address Mr Snelson said within the last fortnight thirty or forty men employed on co-operative works in the district had finished. A contractor at Stratford wished to obtain the services of these men, but within the last few days they had been given further work in the district which would last for six weeKs or two months.
