A Sudden Death
(per pbess association.) , Chuistouuhch, November 20. Colonel Lean, ex-Commanding Officer of Volunteers, and Returning Officer for the Christchurch coming election, dropped dead while passing tho Empire Hotel this morning. Tho cause of death was heart disease, for which deceasod hud been at- > tended by a medical man. Colonel Lean will have a military funoral on Thursday. ' Mr R. Beetham has been appointed Returning Officer, vice Colonel Lean. '
