THE RANGITIKEI ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, —In reference to the present general election, and the candidature of Mr J, Stevens for the Rangitiket se&t, I say that although I am politically opposed to Mr Stevens, and very strongly opposed to the party which be supports, yet I say that I am horrified and humiliated by the scandalous and unwarrantable rumours and reports which have been circulated in respect of his private character. I have been acquainted with Mr Stevens for a good many years. lam a connection of his and I know of nothing (as far as bis private character is concerned) which should prevent anyone recording a vote in his favor. lam really sorry that such rumours should have been circulated. It is not fair, it is not generous, and I hope that the majority of those politically opposed to Mr Stevens will view the matter in the same light as myself.
