He declined on the ground that the state of his health would not permit of his undergoing the worry of contesting an eleotion or the strain of the late sittings of the House. The roll is completed, and 'contains 14,682 names. Nblson, Norember 16. The Rev J. C. Andrews has withdrawn from the City, but has received a requisition from Waimea Sounds and will pro* bably contest that seat. Auckland, November 16. The National Association decided to support Messrs Button and Crowther for the City. It regretted it could not take Mr Withy on account of his advocacy of single tax. The other candidates chosen are : — For Parnell, Mr Shepherd Allen ; Eden, Mr Mitchelson; Waitemata, Mr Monk ; Bay of Islands, Mr Trounaon ; Manakau, Mr Buckland ; Franklin, Mr Massey ; Waipa, Mr Lang; Waikato, Mr Coates; Bay of Plenty, Col. Barton. WangAnui, This Day. Mr A. D. Willis addressed a large meeting in the Drill Hall last night. There were fully one thousand electors present, including about three hundred and fifty ladies. Mr F. R. Jackson (Mayor) occupied the chair. Mr Willis gave a resume of the work of last session, pointing out the anxiety of the Government to legislate for the people and place them on the land. With reference to Sir Robert Stout, he said he only knew one leader of the Liberal party, Mr Seddon, and so long as tho latter remained leader he (Mr Willis) would follow him. He was not aware that Sir Robert Stout was wishful to depose Mr Seddon, and he thought it was a device of the Opposition to split the Liberal party. After ans. weringa number of questions, a vote of thanks and confidence was carried by acclamation. In order not to split the Liberal vote, Messrs Aitken and Mason have retired from the Wanganui contest. Wellington, This Day. Mr McLean has been nominated for Wellington. Hawera, This Day. Mr Bobbins, a candidate for Egmont, addressed the electors at Ngaire last even* ing, and received a vote of thanks. Donedin, This Day Mr Fish has written to the Colonial Secretary complaining of the action of the Returning Officer in letting the Garrison Hall to Ministerial candidates the night before the polling, when he bad engaged the Hall as Returning Officer.
