STRAY CATTLE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir,— Would one of your readers be good enough to explain to me the object (if there is one) of the Cheltenham pound ? | Is it meant to impound stock ? If so it is a fraud and a delusion. Is there a Ranger or anyone with power to place stock within the gates? The Cheltenham road swarms, and does so at the present moment, with stock of all sorts and kinds — horses, pigs, and cattle waiting to be taken in. Of course we know that until the Manchester Boad Board rally with the Kiwitea Boad Board to clear the roads of stook not much can be done as the long — paddock- farmers have only to drive their stock a yard or two past the Cheltenham Hotel or an equal distance down Mackay's road to be at rest and safe. Verily there is one law for the rich and one for the poor, it being the rich that have to buy land and grass, and the poor get it for nothing. Thanking you in anticipation. I am, etc., Saltjtares.
