The Santander Catastrophe
A PANIC-STRICKEN CITY. FRIGHTFUL HUMAN SACRIFICE. (PBB PBEBB ASSOCIATION). Madrid, November 6.' The cargo on board the vessel in« eluded a large quantity of petroleum. It appears there were 1000 cases of contraband dynamite on board. The explosion took place while the rcssel was being towed out of the harbour. Tons of iron, and the steamer's frame, were projected into the air, and 50 sailors on board were blown to pieces. Those who were watching the fire from on shore were also blown to pieces, and human flesh descended over a large area. Owing to the extinction of the police, the fire in town continues unabated. November 7. The damage caused by the explosion and fires at Santander is estimated at * million sterling, 400 bodies have been identified, A large number of doctors are arriving in the town to attend to the wounded- _
