Another Boating Accident

SEVEN LIVES LOST. (per press association. ■) Auckland, November 7. A terrible boating accident occurred on the Rotorua Lake about 4 o'clock this afternoon, resulting in the drowning of seven Maoris, all men. The party were returning from the burial of Hori Karaka, and were within a mile of Ohiuetnutu, when the boat capsized, quickly going to the bottom, leaving the occupants struggling in the water. A boat went to the rescue and picked up about 13 of the entire party, which is supposed to have numbered 20 ; but it is impossible to give the exact number saved, as the Natives are in a wild state of excitement. The sound of wailing is ringing from end to end of the pah.
