Manchester Road Board
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in their office on Saturday last. . Present — Messrs Pearce, Wheeler, Purkiss, and Con way. Mr Wheeler was voted to the chair in the absence of Mr Lethbridge (chairman). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : — From E Sanders, Secretary of the Ashurst Foresters' Hall Co., applying to have the company placed on the rate roil for allotment No. 3, part section No 465, in place of W. T. Ward. From J; G. Paulsen, and Wm. Thomp« son, re change of name from the former to the latter on the rate roll, for section 6, sub M. From F. G. Moore, clerk Wairarapa North County Council, circular re local taxation on the unimproved value of land. Laid on the table for future consider* ation. From E. G. Fitzgerald, Controller and Auditor-General, re provisions in " The Public Revenues Act, 1893." From C. Warne, Ashurst, asking permission to make a raised gravel approach to his Cheese Factory. From F. Gorslitz and Kate Cuff, re change of name on the rate roll from the former to the latter, for section No. 6 surburban, North Halcombe. From Edtud Goodbehere, Secretary Kiwitea Road Board, informing this Board of the intention of his Board to erect a bridge over the Kiwitea stream on the Cheltenham Cross road. From the same, re resolution passed by Kiwitea Road Board requesting the Rangitikei County Council to instruct their Engineer to consult his Board's Engineer when undertaking work on Onepuhi bridge, and asking this Board's co-operation. From Wm. Hazell (of Leamington Farm), drawing the Board's notice to the state of ditches and culverts near the southern end of Nannested's road ; also, to the watercourses on the Government railway property, and asking this Board if they would write to the authorities re the same. From Mr Walter Rutherfurd (secretary), re annual election of members for the Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board* which takes place oh the 22nd instant. From Mr W. Remnant, requesting that the Penelope bridle track be widened into a cart road. It was decided to inform Mr Remnant, that the Board is unable to acoede to the request at present, owing to the want of funds. Proposed by Mr A. Conway, seconded by Mr W. G. Pearce, That permission be be granted to Mr C. Warne to make a raised gravel approach to his cheese factory. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by: Mr Conway, That the name of "Kate Cuff be placed on the rate roll for section 6, suburban, North Halcombe, in place of T. Gorslitz ; the name of W. Thompson for section 6, subdivision M, in place of J. G. Paulsen; the name of E. Sanders, as secretary of Foresters' Hall, allotment No. 3, section 465, Ashurst, in place of W. T. Ward. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That this Board approves of the suggestion made by the Kiyvitea Road Board, That the Rangitikei County Council should be asked to instruct their Engineer to confer with the Engineer of both contributing Boards before incurring any large expenditure.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Conway, That the Engineer have the culvert opposite Mr Maxwell's house, on Nnnnested's road, repaired.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Conway, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the Manchester Road Board agree to the erection of a bridge over the Kiwitea stream, on the Cheltenham Cross road, and the chairman be asked to take the necessary steps to raise a loan for the same. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Conway, That steps be taken to raise a loan of £600 under the " Loans to Local Bodies Act," for the following works :— Metalling Stanway road from town boundary to Mount Biggs, 140 chains, £240 ; metalling 80 chains Mo* Donald's road, from Halcombe-Sandon road to Hansen's gate, £120; forming and metalling 60 chains Paske road, troin Rangitawa road to Paske's gate, £240; aud that a rate of 8-16ths of a penny in the £ be struck over the whole of No. 2 ward to pay interest thereon.— Carried, Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Conway, That the clerk be instructed to call the attention of the District Rail, way Engineer to the unsatisfactory state of the drain and culvert on the railway line near the southern end of Nannested's road, and that this Board requests that the drain be put ur order as soon as possible.— Carried •' ':. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Conway, That the tender of Messrs McMillan and Cameron of 2s 8d per yard for 1000 yards of metal on the Feilding. Ashurst road, and that of J. O'Connor at 8s 2d per yard for 200 yards on the Bunnytborpe-Ashurst road be accepted.—* Carried. Accounts amountiug to £184 3s *>d were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
