FUBTHER DETAILS OF THE FIGHTING. (PEE PHKSS ASSOCIATION). Capetown, November 2. News from Matabeleland states that on the 22nd October the company's forces bivouacked on the banks of (be Givalo river. Next day the camp was removed to Shangnni river. The Matabeles were always retiring, but the same day a number of King Lobengula's followers, who attempted to . rush a detachment guarding prisoners, were captured and sent to Inangonan Kraal. ! The company's loss was one killed, named Burnett. Many kraals were burnt, and nothing further done till the battles on Friday and Saturday. On the 31st 5000 Matabeies made a final effort to storm the company's laager. The natives swept the company's pickets backward till they encountered the combined fire of the Maxim guns and repeating rifles. The enemy found it impossible to with, stand the fusillade, and the impi broke and fled to the bush, leaving behind 500 killed and wounded. Mr Cecil Rhodes has refused Sir H. Locli's offer to station the Bechuanaland police in Buluwayo until quietude has been restored in the country. November 3. The Matabeles made three separate attacks at day-break. Each time they were repulsed they retired in perfect order, though the slaughter was awful. They then faced -about and churned again. Once they reached within thirty yards of the muzzles of the .Mnsim gnns. Buluwdjo was found to bo deserted. Two complete regiments accompany Jjobengula in his flight.
