(PEE FBESS ASSOCIATION). SrDNKY, This Day. Mnjor-General Hution denies the rumour that he has resumed the position of Commandant of JSctr South Wales forces. Major-General Hutton represented to i the Government that the efficiency of the forces would be imperilled if the reductions in the estimates were insisted r upon, but he recoguised the right of the Government to say how much they could , afford to spend. Sir George Dibbs, who L has been interviewed on the matter, | denied that strained relations existed • between the Commandant of the Forces i Aad the Government He added, how- ) ever, that General Hutton has come here i with a lot of strong Imperial opinion?, and I he had to learn that things in the colony f are done in a far different style to that ■ which prevails in the Old Country. "He is a good soldier," said Dibbs, " but he [ writes and talks too much. He means ws'l and is a smart officer, but has much f to learn in regard to official duties. When he has learnt them he will get on better." Much dissatisfaction is expressed at the action of the Government in dispensing . with the annual volunteer encampment.
