The Feilding Star. Published Daily. FRIDAY, NOV. 3, 1893. THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
A contemporary in tUe South Island says thut those who have watched proceedings at Home in connection with the meat trade will not ho surprised to be assured that there is every probability of a rise taking place in the meat market early in the coming year. The severe drought thnt has been experienced in the Old Country lias forced owners to sacrifice their stock for anything that could be obtained, and the result of this depletiou will, we anticipate, be an increased demand for frozen meat during the end of the English winter and throughout spring. Shipment* of meat made during December, January, and February next should, therofore, find a comparatively bare market and good prices. At anyrate the prospect that is held out is sufficiently bright to entice flockowners to make special provision for shipments in the months named. We hope to see the Longburn Freeziug Company in full work soon to take advantage of this opening for them.
