Feiding Borough Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above body was held in the Council Chambers last evening. From James Wilson, drawing the Council s attention to a few chains of road leading to his section, No 183, suburban. From T Dixon, asking the Council to make about five chains of Simon street leading to his section. Keportof Finance Committee was read recommending accounts, amounting£ 1 32 8s 3d, be passed for payment. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That the report of the Finance Committee be adopted — Carried. T *^ lyed ' That the subject of Mr J. Wilson's letter be held over till next meeting. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the chairman of Public Works be instructed to have a few loads of gravel placed on the footpatn in front of Mrs Higgin's shops as requested:— Carried. Resolved, That Mr T. Dixon's request be referred to the Public Works Committee to report at next meeting. Resolved, That the report of the committee of Wairarapa County Council be laid on the table. Proposed by Cr Carthew, seconded by. Cr Fowles, That the requests of the Municipal Association be acceded to. — Carried. The Mayor announced that he had received the draft deed from Messrs Bell, Gully, and Izard, vesting the recreation reserve known as the Oval presented by the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation, in the Borough Council. The clerk read the deed of trust, which embodied the provisions agreed to by a committee of the Council and Sports Committee. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That the draft deed of trust of the sports ground as altered in pencil, be agreed to and that the Borough solicitor be requested to have the necessary deeds, vesting the land in the Borough Council, executed and registered as soon as possible.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Sandilands, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That His Worship the Mayor and Cr Carthew be authorised to wait upon "the Manager of the. Bank of Australasia* and make the necessary arrangements for an overdraft limited to £700. Carried. Cr Worsfold drew the attention of the Council to the obstruction of certain footpaths with packing cases, and a lengthy discussion ensutd. It was the general opinion that there was no objection to cases being unpacked on footpaths, but afUr that they should be removed. The matter then dropped. Cr Carthew brought up the question of the Dog Tax, which he considered was coming in rery slowly. The Collector was instructed to see that the taxes were paid or to take out summonses against defaulters. The Mayor announced that £400 of the Sinking Fund had been let out for a years at 7Jd per cent interest. Resolved, That the Public Works Committee attend to the drain complained of by Mrs Sandilands. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Gould, That the Mayor and Cr Carthew be authorised to sign the contract for South Street bridge, and affix the seal of the Council thereto. — Carried. Cr Worsfold drew the Council's attention to the state of the footpath between Warwick street and Dr Charlton's house in Kimbolton road. He also asked if the Cemetery Committee had any funds in hand, as he had heard complaints about the roads there. Proposed by Cr Thompson, seconded by Cr Gould, That Crs Worsfold, Fowles and Chamberlain be the Public Works Committee for the current year; That Crs Sandilands, Carthew and Gould be the Finance Committee ; and that Crs Thompson, Lethbridge and Morey be the Cemetery Committee. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Gould, That the tender of Mr T. Smith for the formation of Eyre street be accepted at the sum of £18 5s 6d. — Carried. The Council then adjourned.
