OCTOBER WEATHER, 1893.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sib,— After the exceptionally heavy rainfall during the four months— June to September— amounting altogether to 19 41 inches, or 6*20 inches above the average rainfall for the ten years— lßß3 to 1892— as I reported to you on the first ult,, the month of October was ushered in with a fair prospect of much finer weather, and no rainfall whatever was registered dur« ing the first twelve days of the month. People were beginning to complain of empty water-tanks, bit these complaints were fully compensated for during the remainder of the month by rain falling on every subsequent day, except the 14tb, 25th, 26tb, and 27tb ( amounting altogether to 4*41 inches (during fifteen days). The heaviest fall in one day of twenty -four hours was 1*65 inches, which was registered on Monday morning, the 23rd, of which ]£ inch fell in the space of two hours (from 12 to 2), during the severe thunderstorm we experienced* on Sunday afternoon, the 22nd. No frost was registered during the month, which was exceedingly mild, the mean temper, at 930 a.m. being 61 decrees. A maximum temperature of 80 degrees was reached on Saturday, the 28th, beiag higher by 2 degree* than I have regis* tered in October since I commenced my register in 1882. I am, etc., Saml. Goodbbhehe. Feilding, Ist November, 1893.
