Although a conference has been held between the wool buyers and brokers, no arrangements have been arrived at either here or in Melbourne, but it is hoped some scheme will be effected to- day. Hobart, This Day. The Premier in an address to bis constituents said that although tbe Legislative Council had decided against graduated taxation, the Ministry intended to fight for the principle at the general election. He announced the dissolution would take place before Christmas and that Parliament would meet again within ninety days. The finances of tbe present year, he said, would show a deficit of i 73,000 and next year the treasury would require £100,000 of additional revenue. He suggested that the total deficit of £40,000 should be funded and paid off by yearly instalments. Two passengers died on board the Rua» pehu during the voyage from London — the Rev Mr Wilson, of phthisis, and Mr T. Taylor, of pneumonia. Albany, This Day Arrived — Orizoba, from London. Passengers for New Zealand — Rev and Mrs Percy, Mr and Mrs Wilson, Mrs Snisted, Mr Wethered. Melbourne, October 29. The Hon Mr Mclntjre, Minister of Lands, intends shortly to pay a visit to New Zealand to study the system of village settlements in vogue there Adelaide, October 29. The Colonial Treasurer declares that the statements published by the London Investors' Review concerning the finances of South Australia are entirely without foundation. He adds that with the aid of ±"800,000 which the Savings Bank is able to advance, the colony can continue until the end of 1894 without approaching the London market.
