Owing to the dead-lock wool of the value of a million and a half sterling 19 awaiting sale. The Legislative Assembly has passed a Land Tax. A strong opinion prevails that the Lejjislatire Council wiil not accept the principle of a graduated tax* ation. The sentence of death, passed on Alexander Brysen, aged 13, for the murder of |Geo. Smith, has beeji commutted to imprisonment for life. The Government have introduced into the Legislative Assembly a Bill applying the betterment principle to public works. The Cabinet have appointed a Medical Board to inquire into the sanity of Glasson who lies under the death sentence for the Carcoa tragedy. Melbourne, This Day. Owing to the outbreak of small-pox in New South Wales all vessela arriving from Sydney are to be inspected by the Health Officers. The Legislation Assembly have passed a Bill prohibiting the use of opium except under medical direction, and forbidding the growth of poppies under heavy penalties. Lord and Lady Glasgow will be the guests of Lord Hopetown until the end of the racing carnival. There is no further dcvelopement of the wool difficulties.
