A STRANGE DEATH. ANOTHER DKOUGHT. (PEB PBEB3 ASSOCIATION). Hobaht, October 24. Hutchinson, proprietor of the Prince Alfred Hotel, Dunedin. a passenger by the Waihora frem the Bluff, was found dead in his berth on Saturdaj with n leather rag strap tightly fastened round his neck. Bbisbane, October 25. The country in the vicinity of Flanders is in a deplorable condition from drought, and stock are dying in large numbers. The heat is intense. The thermometer is registered at 111 in the shade. No appearance of rain. Melbourne, This Day. The wool dispute has been again renewed, and the sales suspended. Buyers demand a return to the last session's terms. An important action is pending to test the power of Banks to lock up Crown monies. The Muster in Equity lodged £30,000 by order of the Supreme Court, and the Government claim this money cannot be locked up. The defendants contend this money does not belong to Trust Funds of the Treasury, and is, therefore, in the same position as monies of any other depositor. Sydney, October 24. In the Legislative Assembly a point of order was raised on the second reading of the Telegram Copyright Bill, on the ground that as it interferes with trade and should be introduced m committee. Mr Sutton on behalf of the Postmaster General, stated the Government opposed the measure. The Speaker disallowed the point of order and after some dis* cussion the second reading was rejected by 40 to 4. Sir Henry Parkes speaking at a Local Option meeting, declared it was the clear right of the people to taj whether they should have additional public houses, without monetary compensation. He expressed himself fully in accord with the principle of local option.
