The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly ruled that the Legislative Council had exceeded its duty in dealing with the Land-tax., and he cautioned the Assembly to prevent the Council encroaching on its privileges. Sir W. Dobson announced he would lay the Bill aside, and bring in a fresh proposal tor the imposition of a tax of a naif penny in the pound up to £500, and one penny beyond that.
