The Manchester Rules met for Gov* ernment inspection, and as usual there was a very good attendance. Captain Kirton, Lieuts. Bray and Burlace, and Dr. Sorley were present and Sergt. Major Macmiilan represented the Government. In the absence of Color Sergt, Milson, who was laid up from the results of an accident, the company was proved, etc., by Sergt. Aitken. Lieut. Burlace drilled the men in manual and firing exercises, and Sergt. Saywell pnt them through the ! sword bayonet exercise. At tbe conclusion of the parade Capt. Eirton read I the report of Colonel Fox on the company, at his last inspection, in which the efficiency of the officers, non-commis-sioned officers and men was very highly commended. It is needless to say that the report was received with a great deal of pleasure. Captain Kirton added that every man in the company had done his level beßt to assist in arriving at the present creditable condition of the corps. After an adjournment to do honor to the new commissions of Capt. Kirton and Lieut. Burlace, a meeting of the snooting committee was held, at whicb Capt. Kirton presided. Capt. Kirton proposed, and Vol. Evans seconded, That Vol. Card be appointed Hon. Secretary to the committee for the ensuing year. — Carried. After some discussion it was resolved, That a revolving target be erected under the supervision of Lieut. Bray, Vol. Parker, to make the target, Vol. Evans to prepare the trench, and Messrs Say* well Bros, to make the iron work. The whole not to cost mor. than five pounds. Capt. Kirton said the Finance Committee would subscribe two pounds towards tbe cost. Resolved, That the classing of the corps be left in the hands of Cap. Kirton, Lieuts. Bray and Burlace. Captain Kirtcn presented a pair of Binocular glasses to be fired for by class C. and Lieut. Burlaee a silver medal, to be fired for as the committee may deem fit. Recruits desiring to join the Manches* ter Rifles are requested to send in their names to Color Sergt. Milson, the Secretary of the corps. As only a few can be enlisted tbis month, early application is necessary. Several members of the corps have sent for Martini-Henri Rifles, so that in a few days it may be expected FeUding will have a team to complete with some ot the neighboring Rifle Clubs. A vote of thanks to the Chairman ter* minated the meeting.
