Manawatu County Council

The ordinary monthly meeting of ;he above was held in the Council Chambers, Sanson, on Wednesday last Present — Crs Ransom (chairman), raylor, Hammond, Masters, Robin. tou, and J. G. Wilson. Cr Strong was granted leave of ibsence from this meesmg. The minutes of the previous meetng having been read and confirmed, jorrespondence was dealt with as inder : — Applications for transfers of property from Job Gower to B. G. 3ower, Foxton ; John Carter to fi'. w! barter, Foxton ; and G. E. Wrey to Percy Burrell, Feilding.— Granted. From Managing Director of the Mercury, asking for share of advertising.—No action taken. From P. 8. Reaner, Awahuri, re state of road through Kopari.— The >vorseer was instructed to inspect and report at next meeting. From Edward Giesen, re culvert on Awahuri road, near his gate.—Overseer to visit the locality at once and bave work done, cost not to exceed Eo ; if the cost would be greater, to report to Council at next meeting. From James Thompson, asking that six chains of road, leading to hie residence at Sanson, should be metalled. He would do the formation sixteen feet wide gratis.— Agreed to. From Mr Reeve, engineer, Wellington, offering on behalf of a client, to find all the money required to construct a railway line from Levin to Greatford, via the tramway, provided the Manawatu and Horowhenua Counties, and Foxton Borongh, would' guarantee 5 per cent on the outlay, If the line paid anything it would go against guarantee. '- • Proposed by Cr. Wilson, seconded by the Chairman, That Mr Reeve's letter be replied to, to the effect that although the Council would be gladto see the railway made through to Levin and Kakariki, it could not entertain the proposal as it is outside the powers conferred ou it by the Counties Act. — Carried. Awahuri School Committee wrote asking for permission to fence in a blind street for children to turn their horses in— Granted on condition the committee allow anyone wishing to use the road to do so and duringthe pleasure of the Council. Mr P. E. Daniell wrote asking the Council to define Ferry boundaries at Scott's, Lower Rangitikei.— He was referred to Gazette notice of 9th October, 1890. Tenders were opened for various , works. Formation of Foxton road— Rockell, 8s 2£d per chain ; Matthews, 8s lld (accepted); M. Doyle, 6s 5 W (accepted); Flownfield, 10s 6d (accepted); Thompson, 8s (accepted). Formation Main Drain road—Cotterill 28s per chain, being the only one received, was accepted. Clearing off gorse tenders were received, that of D. Fitzgerald at lis 5d per chain was accepted. Formation of Campion's line— M. Doyle 5s lld per chain was accepted. Cr. Master's notice of motion to rescind a resolution to borrow £600 for special works in the Sandon Biding was agreed to. The County Banger reported impounding thirty head of cattle and twenty horses during the month of September. Treasurer's report showed an overdraft of £928 9s 3d on the general account. The separate Riding ac- - counts were mostly in credit for small amounts, Mount Stewart Riding having a credit of £152 5s 9d. On account of the general election of Councillors falling in the second Wednesday in November, it was agreed to hold the next meeting of the Council on Friday the 3rd of November. Accounts amounting to £349 lis were passed for payment and the Council adjourned.
