CHELTENHAM DAIRY COMPANY.

The meeting of shareholders of the above, named Company, held on Saturday, and fully reported in another column, was highly satisfactory. The Chairman contended, and all sensible men must agree with him in his contention, that the Directors will be unable to do lull justice to the shareholders unless they have sufficient working capital to carry on. It is foolish to pay the banks interest when by paying up their own shares as far as possible, without waiting for the time to elapse on which calls may be made, for so doing. The individual amounts payable by each shareholder are, comparatively speaking, small, but in the aggregate thej make a respectable sum. This suggestion, if adopted, will not only mean liberality, but prudence. The more a shareholder does for the company, the more profit he puts in his own pocket. We are glad to notice that the shares have already become a marketable commodity. This is a good sign, being as it is an evidence of the confidence persons, not already shareholders, have in the Company; but we venture to advise intending purchasers that it would be much better for all parties if they were to invest their money in the new shares now being issued, even although they are at a small premium. It must be remembered that the factory will begin to earn money the very moment it commences operations, and dairy farmers, who have to supply the milk will, in a very few weeks alter, begin to realise in hard cash the reward of their enterprise.
