Salvation Army

Quite a large number of people assembled in the Salvation Army Barracks j last night to bear the address on '' Rescue ; Work," which was ably delivered by Captain Payne. Captain Tremain briefly introduced the ladj visitor, who at odco com* menced her address, without the least ! nervousness. She felt glad to havo the opportunity of bringing before the public of Feilding the great rescue work which is being done and carried on by the Sal vatioa Army. There were now live rescue homes for women and one homo for men in New Zealand, and these homes were kept full. Some few years ago they had ' only one home, wbich was under Mrs Major Barritt's supervision, but now their work had increased so much that I they have been compelled to enlarge tbe number of homes. The Government was ] very good on political and other matters 1 in effectinc an advancement of New Zea 1 land, but by some mistake had overlooked the importance of up-lifting the 1 down-trodden and the fallen. In her 1 opinion there was almost as great a need i for homes for men as for women. The i one home which is now being used for 1 men was doing magnificent work. The ! Army not only aim > at individual reform- 1 ation, but at getting the people to serve 1 the living God. She then gave an inter- 1 esting account of lhe modes adopted for < the rescue of fallen girls. Tho lecture occupied upwards of an hour, and at its conclusion a liberal collection in aid of the ( rescue homes wns taken up. ' Mr Harford, late of lteefton, wilt conduct the Army meetings to-morrow. (
