[Per Press Association! Chkistcuibcu, October 4. Private advice received at Ljttelton states that the barque Highland Forest, homeward bound from Timaru, had an exciting experience on the voyage with bud weather and ice. On May 3rd a tern tic gale was encountered, and the pea carried away the wheel and wheel- box, besides the companion ladder and other things from the dock, and smashed in the main hatch. Iu heaying-to the vessel went oyer on her beam ends, with the fore and main yards in the water, aud lay in that position for three days. A cumber of the crew were frost-bitten. On the third day the gnlo moderated and the vessel righted herself. A telegram was received by the Marine Department yesterday from Captain Fairchild, of tho Govorninout steamer Hiuo> moa, at Napier, stating that about noon on Tuesday ho had picked up a quantity of wreckago off Capo Palliser. Tho wrock. ago consisted of oi{»ht pieces, which included portions of a bunk board, somo pieces of deckhouse, chocks to rest boats on, and a piece of sliip.s topgallant bulwarks with the oamo ' Evelyn ' on it. There ia now littlo hope of the v easel turning up safely.
