Cricket Club Meeting

A meeting of cricketers was held in the Empire Hotel last evening, to consider the advisability of amalgamating the Manchester and Oroua cricket clubs, and other business. Only a fair number of " Knights of the Willow " attended, but apologies were received from several who were unavoidably absent. Mr Read was voted to the chair and explained the objects of the meeting. It was resolved to combine the two old clubs, the new one to be called 11 The Feilding Cricket Club ;" also, That this club join ike Manawatu and Bangitikei Cricket Association." The subscription for the year was fixed at half a guinea ; and it was decided that the club's colors be the same as those of the Manchester Club last season. The following officers were elected : — President, Mr E. Goodbehere ; vicepresidents, Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge and H. Bastings ; secretary, Mr Burlace ; treasurer, Mr Bailey ; committee — Messrs Bailey, G. Lethbridge, Read, Richards, and Parr ; match committee — Messrs Bailey, Richards, and Parr. It was decided to postpone the | election of Captain (for the season) until the first match of the season be played. Mr Lethbridge said he intended giving a bat to the player who made the best batting average at the end of the season, find hoped it 'would be an inducement to members to roll up and practice. Mr Read stated that he also intended giving a bat to the best fieldsman, and said that more matches had been lost than won last season through bad fielding. Mr Levoi thought the bowling should be kept up, and said he would give a silver medal to the bowler who, at the end of the season, had made the best average. The opening day was fixed for Wednesday afternoon next, when a scratch match will be played. After passing hearty votes of thanks to Mr Lethbridgo (for th« use. of his ground), and to the chairman, the meeting terminated.
