The Ranger, Mr Lundius, reported tbat an enquiry was necessary in reference to the occupation of section 3, Block IV, Apiti, by Mr Martin when it belonged to Mr J. W. Howie. It was decided to ask the latter to attend and explain matters. Mr James Clulow, Eketabuna, applied for time to effect bis improvements on section 4, Block 11, Pukeroi, as he had been unable|to get tenders for bushfelling. — It waß decided to inform him that as be would have to fell 180 acres by July next, it would be necessary for him to let some of the bush during the present season. A list of BettJsrs in arrear with improvements was read and instructions given to stir tbem up. Selectors to be asked to Bhow cause why section should not be forfeited: — E. Walker, Mangahao ; P. G. A long opinion from the Crown Law Officer was read in reference to the conversion of small grazing runs to leases m perpetuity, pointing out the method under which such a concession could be given. — It was decided to forward the opinion to the applicants interested. The question of the number of applications one person could put in for land on one day was fully considered, and it was decided to limit the applications to one for each person, except for contiguous lands. Mr Pirani asked the Commissioner when the Totara Reserve up Pohangina would be offered for salo, and pointed out tbat the river bed could be used to cart timber, notwithstanding tbe road was in course of formation. So there would be no advantage in delaying the sale till the road was formed. Mr Baker replied he was of the same opinion, and would take steps to offer a reserve for lease very shortly, after a portion without milling timber was cut off. In answer to Mr Pirani, tbe Commissioner said he intended to offer forfeited sections in Special Settlements for sale at the end of next month.
