He asked under what clause a father could not hold land for his children, and quoted the Chief Justice's opinion on the question. He denied that the land was held as a family property in a wrong sense. His son was residing near tbe property on his own section, was paid for managing the property by himself and his daughter, and had spent no money on bis own section. He (bought the Bfiard were gc-iag rather far i_ _cxl» j l_g with him in the way they did, and i making him a laughing stock from the North Cape to Stewart Island os a sample of a dummy. In reply to the Commissioner, Mr Shannon said the whole of the profits went to his son and daughter. Mr Pirani remarked that he still held the view that the Board had no right to interfere with tho granting of the title, as on the face of it the transaction was perfectly bona fide. The Commissioner in* formed Mr Shannon that the board had asked him for an explanation, without imputing that there was anything wrong, but it was necessary to have an assurance of the fact that the property was taken up for the sole use and benefit of the selectors. It was decided to pass the titles for the three sections. The following applications to capitalise were granted :— E. W. Gotch, Mangaone ; E. Curreen, Apiti : W. Vicary, Apia ; P. | Brown, Ongo. Mr Heckler was granted permission to reside on his own land, boing within 10 miles of his small run at Mangaone. Mr Burke was granted permission to let tho graziug on his section at Apiti.
