(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, September 26. At the Horse Parade there was a good attendance of exhibits. The Clydesdales numbered 32, thoroughbreds 10, carriage and trotting 11, and pony 1. Buyers were not disposed to go up to reserves and few sales took place. Wm. Mardling, a blacksmith, and a very old resident of Hyde, was drowned while crossing the Taieri river. CnßisTcnußcu, September 26. Shortly before two o'clock this afternoon, two young men, named John Loader and Thomas Berry, were sailing a boat near the Western breakwater at Lyttelton, when a sudden squall capsized the boat. Berry was rescued, but Loader was drowned. The Borough Council has expended £141 in providing work for the unemployed. Wellington, September 26. The City Council, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and the Harbour Board, have decided not to grant their conseut for a holiday on October 2. r )th, Labour Day, though they will be quito willing to consider a request for somft more convenient day. Woodville, Sept. 26. At a meeting of shareholders in the Building Society last night, it was decided to put the society on a basis of active operation. Gisborne. This Day. In consequence of the prevalence of diphtheria the school is closed. There have been three deaths. Dunedin, September 20. All the streams in Central Otago are in flood, and considerable damage has been done to mining property.
