The trader's name was Lifon, and he was master as well as owner of an inter-island schooner. One of the natives was eaten. Adelaide, This Day. Sir J. Hector inducted Professor Tate, the new President of the Association of Sciences. Hobabt, This Day. A man named Bridges has been arrested on a charge of attempting to wreck an express train from Hobart to Launces- | ton, and remanded. Melbourne, This Day. The Government express pleasure at the result of tbe loan, and think it mnst have , offered relief to trade in the colony. Heavy rains have fallen over the colony, and all the rivers ore swollen. A number are in a flooded state, and the Yarra is still rising. Many of the suburbs are under water.
