A meeting of the creditors in tlie bnnkrupt estate of Chtrles Orubb. baker, was held nt the Court house, Palmerston, yesterday. Present — D.O A. (in tinchair), Messrs Dustin, Wixey (proxy for Hogan and Co), T. K. Chamberlain, L E. Eeade (proxy for J. Darragh and Thompson and Thompson), C. J. Enstrom, J. JNanncsted, .1 . Gleeson, C. Whitehead, and Grubb, son. Mr pus* tin also held a proxy for A. D. Willis. The debtor in his statement attributed his failure to bad health, nnd loss sustained bp taking over Boon and Cole's business, ns well as insufficient capital. Mr Chnmberlain complained that the 5s in the £ which the debtor had agreed to pay the whole of his creditors in July last, when the deed of composition was arranged, had never been received by him. Debtor in reply to Mr Eeade, said he , was practically bankrupt last November, but had continued to get goods from Mr Thompson, of Feildia^. because the lal* ter was purchasing biscuits from him and he had every expectation of paying Mr Thompson. The same thing applied to Mr Da rra<;h. Mr Dustin proposed that the debtor be publicly examined. Seconded by Mr lteade. The DO A. mentioned that under the , new Bankruptcy Act debtor must come up for his discharge within four months, nnd on that occasion the whole of the particulars connected •with his business could be got oat of him by the u-ual examination. Mr Chamberlain said he would not support the motion, as he thought debtor's present position had only been brought about by stupidity. The motion was put to the meeting and lost, fire creditors representing i.107 4s Id voting in favor of it, and two creditors representing A"560 Us Od against it.
