A Severe Storm at Nelson
{PEB PBKSS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, >eptembcr 14. An extraordinary storm -was experienced here this afternoon and evening. About 2.30 a small whirl-wind passed through the centre of the town, and some pieces of roofing iron and timber were raised by the wind from Scott's builders' yard and carried across Halifax street over a large garden and another street, bat no dama»e was done. A tree at the i corner of Church Hill was wrenched off ! at the roots and some fences levelled. In other parts of the town the wind was scarcely noticed. A heavy downpour then followed, accompanied by thunder and lightninij. The Waimea road and street were flooded, and near the railway station the water was over knee-deep in the street, and that depth in the Post Boy Hotel. On the hill sides there arc several land slips, and at the Port one family had to leave their residence on account of slips. Between this and Richmond road is flooded, but the heavy rain appears to have been very local
