Forfeiting Holdings.

_^_ We take the following from the Auckland Star :— At a meeting of the Auckland Crown Land Board on Wednesday, seyeral cases of alleged " duinmyisin " in connection with Government lands occupied on perpetual or other leases came j up for consideration. Mr O'Hara Smith, during the recent " dumtnyism " trial at New Plymouth, stated that he had discovered that " duniuiyism," or the taking up of Government lands for speculation and not itu proving them, was practised to a considerable extent on the West Coast. The Awakiuo, which is in the extreme south of the Auckland Proviuce, just north of the Mokau River, on the West Coast, has only been opened for settlement some four years, and it is fast being taken 'up by sheepfarmers and others. Several cases of alleged " dummyisni " came before the Board, and as the result of the Board's deliberations, the perpetual lease sections of Mrs A. Buick and Mr x l . Buick, at Awakino, were forfeited for non-residence and non-compliance with regulations under the Land Act. The first section contained 45 acres, and the second 38 acres. The grazing runs of Thomas Bayly, Jnn. (containing 11,000 acres), and Mr McNeice (864 acres) were also declared forfeited for non-residence and failure to improve. Several other cases in connection with perpetual leases were deferred.
