A Cricketers' Union
A meeting was held at the Manchester Hotel on Saturday last, for the purpose of forming a Cricketers' Association for the Eangitikei and Manawatu Districts. The following delegates were present : Messrs Tompkins and Lance (Halcombe), lteade and Burlace (Feilding), Millen (Colyton), Byrne and Palmer (Birmingham), Bishop and Bowater (Couipbelltown), and Hart (Sandon). Mr Tompkins was voted to the chair. It was resolved to form a Cricketers' Association to be called, " The Rangitikei and Manawatu Cricketers' Association," the subscription to be 21s a year. The boundaries were drawn to include the country from the Manawatu River to the Gorge, thence to the Pohangina and Turakina rirers. The following officers were appointed : —President, J. G. Wilson, Esq., M.H.R.; vice-presidents, the Revs. Towgood and Innes Jones, and Mr Lance of Halcombe ; secretary, Mr A. H. Tompkins ; treasurer, Mr J. W. Burlace. It was resolved to purchase a Challenge Cup for competitition, the cost of said Cup to be raised by subscriptions from the Clubs belonging to the Union. It was stated that one gentlemen had already promised £5 towards this object. The Cup to ba t won throe times in Bueeeesion, or four times at intervals. It was arranged to hold the next meeting at the Manchester Hotel at 230 on the 23rd inst., when a match committee will be elected, and fixtures drawn up for the forthcoming season. The customary vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the proceedings.
