Manchester Road Board
This Day. The regular monthly meeting of the above Board was held to-day. — Present Wardens Lethbridge (Chairman), Pearce, Booth, Conwny and Wheeler. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was received : — From Younger and Laing, offering to sell their pile driving machine, to the Board for the sum of .£25. From J. Williams, Ashurst, requesting permission to erect a hitching post fronting their property m Stratford street. From the Treasury, re-payment of interest ; also forwarding subsidy £81 14s lOd due under the Acts of 1885 and 1892; likewise sending LB4 11s 2d rates on native lands for the years 1890-93 inclusive. From J. James, calling the Board's attention to a small culvert fronting his place on the Ashurst-Bunnythorpe road. From the Pohangina Road Board, asking the Manchester Board to assist them in opening up the road from the Pohangina road between section 6 and 7, through the Manchester Block, in order to give settlers in the Gorge Survey District an outlet. From the Manawatu Road Board, requesting the Manchester Board to metnl about 30 chains on the Cemetery road, Bunnythorpe, as this road benefits settlers living in both districts. From the same, stating that they are Inking tho necessary steps towards raising their portion of the amount due for constructing the Aornngi bridge, but declining to recognize any liability in respect of the item L3O for inspecting "pile driving." From tho Government Railway Kngineer, Wauganui, acknowledging receipt of plans. From the Manawatu County Council, declining to pay any portion of interest on money borrowed by the Manchester Board in connection with the Aorangi bridge construction, and requesting information on what authority the claim is based. From Mr Sherwill, broker for Mrs Thorby, re-closed roads in the Stanway village, and pointing out that the roads in question are not public roads but are vested in tho Colonists' Land Corporation, and further stating, that tho Makino and Stanway roads are public roads vested in the Crown, but Surrey, Suffolk, and Sussex streets are parts of tho land granted to the Corporation, and were created by deposit of plan. Such deposit of a plan however does not make roads public roads, but only gives tho right of way over them to those to whom adjoining sections may be transferred. Consequently the writer desired a refund of L2O paid to the Board on 31st May, 1892. From Mr Bruce, M.H.R., re interest on payments, and stating that the matter shall receive his careful consideration. From D. Henderson, requesting permission to erect a verandah fronting his shop in Colyton. (Left Sitting.)
