At a meeting, organised by the Salvation Army, held at Lyttelton, last evening, resolutions were passed protesting against the sentence passed on Captain Kerr. A motion, expressing the opinion that control of the liquor traffic should be placed in the hands of the people with the right of veto, was carried by a bare majority. Wanganui, August &1. At a public meeting, held in the Salvation Army Barracks to-night, a resolution was passed expressing indignation at the extreme sentence passed on Captain Kerr, at Milton, for playing a cornet in the streets. Palmkbston N., This Day. The members of the Palmerston branch of tiis Salvation Army held a large meeting in the Barracks last night, to protest against the action of the authorities at Milton fining Captain Eerr for playing a cornet in the public streets.
