(PER PHESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, August 30. To-day the police Bhipped back to Sydney two or three of the spieling fraternity, who were before the Magistrate's Court yesterday on charges of vagrancy, and released on condition they left the colony. The New Zealand Electrical Syndicate have received a cablegram from London, saying that the Select Committee appointed by the House of Lords, and the House of Commons, to inquire into the dispute between telephone and tramways, re use of the earth as a return, has decided in favour of the tramway. Donedin, August 30. At the Police Court, Jas. Evans was committed for trial for an aggravated assault on a woman named Julia Huston. Auckland. August 30 At Cambridge a large public meeting was held, the Mayor presiding, when a resolution was carried condemning the treatment of Captain Lerr, of the Salvation Army, at Milton. Woodviixk. August 30. Mr (Jeorge Hunter is here in connection with the coming election, and states that he will contest the Waipawa seat against ull comers.
