(PKB PBE3S ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, August 21 At tlio annual meeting of tho Auck« land Trotting Club the report showed a j net profit of £237, makiag with the balance in hand I'SO7. The club is making improvements to the racecourse and paddock to the extent of £3000. Tho largest and most representative meeting of the liquor trade ever held here* took plact to-day. An association was formed nnd details arranged in regard to combined action for all forth* coming elections. CuKisTCurßcn, August 21. Jas. Hogg. boarding»house keeper, was found drowned in the Avon this morning. Wellington, This Day. A number of the occupants of the dross circle, in the Opera House last night, had their trousers pockets cut while leaving and the contents rifled. Punkdin, August 21. At the Supreme Court to-day Cornelius Johns, who is supposed to have absconded, was adjudicated a bankrupt, as also was Betsy Leighton, In the latter case counsel took the precaution of putting in a two-fold pleti, as, under the new Bankruptcy Act, it was doubtful whether a married woman could be adjudicated on tho proof of the act of bankruptcy, which would bo relied on in such a case where the debtor not a married woman.
