Information has been received of the death of Dr ShortUnd, at Plymouth, England, aged 81. brother of Mr Willoughby Shortland, Acting-Governor of New Zealand, on the death of Governor Hobson. The Board of Education have again refused Bishop Luck's application that the Board's , inspectors inspect Koman Catholic schools, and hare informed him that no private schoota are inspected by the Board's inspectors. Gforgo John Basten dropped down in a tit m Karanguhapc road, and died shortly afterwards in the hospital of cerebral apoplexy. Woodvillk, August 15. The Holiday Association passed a resolution io favour of asking the Govern men t to lix, in the Shop Hours Bill, a universal day on which the half holiday shall be obserrcd.
