A seven roomed house ou the Ferry road, Christchurch, with conteuts, was destroyed by fire last night. The children were in bed aud were with difficulty rescued. The disturbance at the late Bakers' Union banquet held at Wellington was made the subject of a Court case yesterday, when four men appeared on complicated charges of assault. Three were each fined £4. or 14 days' imprisonment, and the other, who had got decidedly the worst of it, was dismissed. His Worship remarked that tho men (should not conduct themselvos liko beasts and cowards when they were assembled to celebrate a social affair among themselves.
