RAILWAY COMMUNICATION.
Through communication with Wellington was maintained on Saturday by means of tho afternoon train. A train left Palmerston in the morning, but did not go further than Levin, returning to Longburn at 3 p.m., where no provision bad been made by the Government line to bring on passengers, and those who wanted to reach Palmerston had to come on by coach or walk, a few choosing the latter alternative. The eveniug train was despatched as usual, and when the break was reached at Waikawa the passengers and luggage were transferred. The Wellington passengers had to travel some distance in a timber waggon and then "walk the plank" to rench the Palmerston train and vice verau. The mails wero very heavy aud included an English as well as an Australian mail. Tbe train arrived at Palmerston at 9 50 p.m. Auckland. August 6. |PEK I'HESS ASSOCIATION. | Ever since Auckland Observatory was established never was there such a lengthy spell of wet weather. The Waikato is still rising. Heavy landslips have occurred on the Waikato line, and passengers are being carried in 'buses. The Kaipara line is also blocked. The up train ploughed through 14m ot water over the roils. Wellington, This Day. Baining again heavily at intervals. Several more slips in various parts of the town.
