A deputation was introduced by Mr Richardson, M.K.R , consisting of several members of the Surveyor's Institute, waited on the Premier to urge the Government to bring in an Institute of Sur« reyor'B Bill this session. The Premier promised (o bring the matter before the Cabinet, and would let tho secretary know the result in a few days. CnuisTcnußCH, August 4. Rabbits appear to be increasing to an alarming extent on the east side of the Hakateratnea Valley, in South Canterbury. Several holders of small grazing runs at Station Peak yesterday petitioned the Land Board for a reduction of rent on account of the increase of the pest, but the Board decided that it had no power to reduce. One holder of 3000 acres stated that he had paid for over 11,000 skins in 12 months ended July last, another occupier of 3300 acres had taken 4000 rabbits off his land since the Ist of April, and a third stated that during last year ho had paid a sum equal to the rental of his 1000 acres (£6O) in trying to keep down the pest.
