The Australian merchants in London are buying cautiously, without asking favors, nnd meeting their bills better thnn was expected, thereby increasing confidence. Despite their protest against their unfair trial, tho SuUan refused to grant mercy to the five Armenians condemned, and they havo been hanged. Two Armenians, who have arrived in England, give horrible details of the persecution their countrymen have been undergoing. An indignation meeting is to be held in London. At the Cowes yachting carnival the Prince of Wales' Britannia won the Meteor Challenge Shield. The Prince and his son, the Duke of York, were on board the yacht. The Luis won the Australian Cup. Lord Dufferin, British Ambassador in Paris, has arrived in England. Cholera has appeared both at Gravesend and Great Grimsley, but so far cases are confined on board ships which brought tho disease. The bank rate of discount is 3 percent. Mr N. McNab, Manager of tho London office of the Bank of New Zealand retires. He will be succeeded by Mr C. F. Tegetmoire, the present Secretary to the London branch. At the annual meeting of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr R. H. Glyn, tho chairman, said the deposits were increasing faster than the Bank could possibly employ them. The advances to tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company were amply secured. The report was adopted, and the retiring directors were re-elected. Washington, August 3. The Government gold reserve is now restored to its usual amount. News from Central America states a genernl amnesty has been proclaimed in Nicaragua, and the Leon party have resumed control of the Government. Buenos Aybes, August 3. The Radicals have overthrown the Santafo Government. At Rosario a riot also occurred, and 000 porsons were wounded. Nkw York, August 3. There is a better feeling in financial circles throughout the States.
