The Trouble with Siam
[Peu Press Association.] Pabis, August 2. It is officially stated that Siam has agreed to give the guarantees demanded by France. Admiral Huinann is demanding the cession of tho port of Chontabun as a guarantee. Much alarm is said to be felt in Bankok in consequence. London, August 3. Sir E. Grey, Political Undersecretary for the Foreign Office, replying to qnestions ro blockade by France in Siam, stated that only one British steamer was stopped, and that only temporarily. He stated that the blockade was an error, but the loss to trade had been very slight. The Hon. Mr Balfour said that if Lord Rosebery, Foreign Secretary, had abstained from advertising the opinion that Great Britain had no interests in Siam, France would have been discouraged from ftnnoTinnr tnrjMtnrv Minrn
