Stock Markets

Messrs Abraham tfc Williams report holding sales at Woodville and Palmerston during the week. At the former the entry of stock was virtually confined to cattle, which were in full supply, aiaon" them being a first-class line of aged and well-bred store-bullocks that made A' 6 2s 6d. Other sorts much on a par with recent quotations. At Palmerston yesterday the yards were well filled with cattle. Sheep were below anticipations in point of numbers, owing to the wet weather prevailing. Cattle were in fair demand throughout, but at somewhat easier rates. We effected a clearance on all but one pen. For sheep, the demand for ewes in lamb still exists, but prices are in purchasers' favor. We quote — Fat bullcoks, Jt'ti to £1 3s ; prime fat cows, £6 10s ; store bullocks, £4 2s to £4 18s ; springing heifers, £5 8s ; others, £3 9s to £4 10s ; cows in calf, £4 12s 6d ; milch cows, £4 15s to £5 ; yearlings, mixed sexes, 50s. Sheep — Empty ewes. 9s 3d ; those in lamb, 11s 3d to 13s; culls, 7s 9i. No others on offer. Mr Matthew Henry reports : — A fair entry of cattle, but more of sheep, came forward to the Manawatu Live Stock Auction Market. The attendance was not so representative as usual, and as the bulk of tho stock was of the dairy class, which are super-abundant at the present season, bidding ruled in keeping with recent sales.
