The Pohangina Minstrels at Golyton

The above Minstrels gave their clever entertainment at Colyton last night in aid of the Fohangma English Church Building Fund, but unfortunately owing to the small attendance there will be very little, if anything, to hand over to the Fund. The following took the leading parts : — Interlocutor, Mr Fearce; bones, Mr A. Adsett ; tambourine, Mr Goldfinch ; piano, Mr Cochran; violin, Mr Rimmer; cornet, Mr Wilson. The opening overture by the band was capitally rendered. The subjoined programme was then gone through in a most satisfactory manner : Opening chorus, * Tramp, tramp " ; song (comic) " Eightpence," Mr A. Adsett; song, " Nellie Gray," MrT. Curran;song, "Golden Stairs," with local hits, Mr A. Goldfinch; song, 'The Rustic Bridge,' Mr Percy Andrews; song, • Boys keep away from the Girls,' Mr A. Adsett; song, * The Boat went over,' Mr Goldfinch ; song, 'Dearest May,' Mr Fraser; song, • Old Jeff,' Mr Pearce; song, • Mulligan Guards,' Mr Goldfinch. When all did their best and acquitted themselves well, it would be invidious to single out any one performer for special mention in the vocal items. Mr A. Adsett acquitted himself well with the bones, and Mr Goldfinch as tambo played well and threw plenty of life and go into his performance. The band was capital, and the jokes and local hits were exceptionally good, being funny and original. Mr Pearce as interlocutor carried out his duties in an able manner. The farce entitled « The Doctor's Shop ' was the final item, and although the performers did not succeed in ' bringing down the house,' nevertheless the denoument resulted in considerable disarrangement of the Bide scenes and stage background, amidst the hearty laughter of the audience. Consider* ing that the members of the company have only had three or four renewals, they are to be congratulated on their very creditable display, which merited a better house.
