Concert at Makino
The Primitive Methodist Bocial gather* ing in the Makino school-room last even* ing was very well attended. The pro- 1 gramme was commenced by singing the hymn •• Come ye that love the Lord," followed by a prayer by the Rev. Mr Clement, who was presiding. The chairman made a few appropriate remarks about the opening services at Makino, last Sunday, also the advantages of social gatherings. The choir then sang " God is Love." Mrs Clement recited " The last hymn" and "Trouble in the Amen Corner," for both of which she was deservedly applauded. She afterwards sang the solo " He wipes the tear from every eye." A duet " Beautiful House," by the Misses Terry, and a quartette 11 Festive days are Bright," by the Misses Terry (2) and Humphrey (2) were very nicely rendered for such young singers. Mr A. Ilickford read " A Fireman's Wedding " and " Faithful love " in goodstyle. Mr Simpson sang " Hear me Jehovah " and " The song that reached my heart " with taste. Mr Clement read the amusing pieces " Tilings not worth trying " and " Things I would not choose." Mr John Watson sang "The Soldiers tear "and "Hazel Dell " Mr E. Humphrey's recitations •• A woman of mind " and " Little Lizzie " caused a lot of fun, especially the latter. The. evening was brought to a close by all singing " God be with you." Mrs Clement and Miss Terry played the accompaniments to the singing, on the orgau. Refreshments were handed round by a number of young ladies and everyone present thoroughly enjoyed themselves, Mr Clement moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Terry for the loan of the organ, and to Mrs Green and her family for the trouble they had taken in providing refreshments ; also, to those who had assisted Mrs Green. This was seconded by Mr A. Hiokford and carried. On the motion of Mr Flaxwell a vote ot thanks waß accorded to the ladies and gentlemen who went up from eilding to assist.
