Ashurst Pohangma Racing Club

A committee meeting of this club was held »t Mr Taylor's Commercial Hotel on Saturday evening. The balance-sheet was read and adopted, after which the annual general meeting was held, Mr John Cotter taking the chair. Mr J. S. Freeman, secretary, read the second annual report, which showed the club to be in ft good financial position. It was decided to increase the value of the stakes at thd annual meeting to £160 ; and also to insert a members' race in the pro* gramme of the value of £7 10s ; also to issue a lady's ticket to every holder of a member's ticket. The annual meeting was held on December 28th, and was an unqualified succcms. The privileges realised 1*77 4s 6d. as against £71 6s of Ibe previous year. The receipts from the totaliaator were £271 2s lOd, as against £105 10» the year before. The following U a statement of the receipts and expenditure for the year ending July 31st, 1898. The following officers were then elected : — President, Mr Cotter ; vicepresident. C. A. \V. Hunt; stewards — Messrs J. Cotter, G. Adsett, C. Hunt, G. S. Bumble, J. Sim, F. Retemeyer, and 8. T. Hunt ; judge, J. Cotter ; clerk of scales, D. Conchie ; starter, E. Wood ; timekeeper, H. W. Haybitlie ; secretary, J. B. Freeman ; treasurer, G. B. Rumble ; committee— J. Sim, O Adsett, T. Ingram, C. Hunt, J. Hewitt, S. Hunt, P. Retemeyer, F Arbon. T. Gardiner, H. J. Stevens, and W. Cornford. The following new member were proposed— Messrs J. Williams, Dorreen, G. Jackson, H. I. Davis, A. Bullock, Holland, and J. A. Daley. A cordial vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
