During an excursion on the Thames, at which the Australian cricketers were guests, a boatman fell overboard and was sinking in deep water when Tom Ware and Conningham jumped in, with their clothes on, and rescued the drowning man. The latter had a narrow escape. Mr E. J. Davies, speaking at a meeting the of Queensland National Bank creditors said the suspension was caused by the unfair criticism and action of the press.
