Serious Coach Accident
«, (PER PBESS A8SOOIATION.) WehixgTON, This Day. The Postal authorities have received information, from the Lyell of a serious accident which occurr d to the mail coaoh ruuuing between tho Lyell and Reefton. Tho coach which was driven by Jones, with the following passengers :— Mr and Mrs Mitchell. Messrs Burly and their two Sons, Glenny, Cummin, and Dixon, left tbe Ljoll yesterday afternoo? , and ou reaching Bed Jacket a portion of tho bank gave way, letting down the hind wheel, and the coach was precipitated over the bank a distance of 150 feet on to the edgo of tbe Buller River. Whon the accident occurred the kingbolt came out, and the driver escaped by being pulled over tho front of the coach by tho team. Jones then hastened to the nenr* cut station for assistance and a convey ance. As no medical man was available, a doctor wan sent from Westport. M r Mitchell was knocked about the head and face, being partly insensible, and wa« hardly recognisable, Mrs Mitchell had her back injured very seriously, and she has completely lost the use of her legs, Mr Glenny had one of his legs broken, and wns much knocked about. Dixon had a leg and an arm broken, and was a good deal knocked about. Cummins had a bruised arm, sprained or broken, and a bad wound about the head. No furtuer particulars as to whether the children were injured. The Postal Department has wired for all possible assistance to be rendered lo the snff.rers _________ j
